The Swaziland sugar industry is committed to a physically and mentally healthy workforce.

The mills and large estates operate clinics staffed by doctors, sisters and nursing assistants. These provide a 24-hour free medical service for employees and their families.

A distinct emphasis is placed on community health at the various sub-clinics, which further reinforces the interface between the industry and surrounding communities.

Employees of the industry undergo health care education programmes that cover such aspects as tuberculosis, nutrition, child welfare, family planning and HIV/AIDS.

SSA also promotes good oral health hygiene. This complements government's efforts and is aimed at dispelling the myth that sugar is bad for the teeth.
