| SSA Hosts Sugar Conference 2011 |
|
The Swaziland Sugar Association (SSA) held its biennial Conference on 22 September 2011 under the theme “Sustainability of the Swazi Sugar Industry and Required Strategies”. This succeeded the last Conference which was held in 2009 where participants came from all sugar-producing countries in SADC. Sugar Conference 2011 was targeted at local participants. However, the resource persons, who presented on different areas of interest were drawn from a pool of local and regional experts. The Conference commenced with a breakfast session at 07h00 and ended with lunch at about 14h00. The topics covered include sustainability issues for smallholder growers, improving sugarcane management practices, diversification (including opportunities in cogeneration, carbon credit trading and ethanol production), as well as sugar trading opportunities (new landscape for trade and niche product marketing). The Conference material, including the programme, presentations, communiqué and Conference report, would be compiled into a CD for distribution to participants. Participants need to contact the SSA office after 15 October to obtain a copy. At the same time, the material would be posted on the SSA website for access by the general public. Kindly visit this page at that time to obtain the material. |
